This is your chance to take your tea surrounded by the grandiose history of the stunning Palos Verdes estate, and an intimate behind-the-scenes tour led by a descendent of the original owner.
In 1913, financier Frank Vanderlip purchased the Palos Verdes Peninsula with a group of investors. He sought to create a Mediterranean-style resort on the California Coast. Though the peninsula has changed over the years, Vanderlip's dream is preserved beautifully at the family home, the Villa Narcissa. The Tuscan-style Villa Narcissa, built in 1924 overlooking the magnificent Portuguese Bend, became a center of culture and arts in the Los Angeles area.
Frank's grand-daughter Katrina Vanderlip, will begin by taking us on an exclusive tour of the estates famous gardens, which hosted some of the most glittering parties of Southern California in the 20th century. Then inside the Villa itself, we will join Katrina for tea while she reveals the history of her storied family and its patronage of the arts. We will also view the Villa's extensive art and furniture collections, as well as the architectural curios that make it one of the premier heritage homes in Southern California.
A portion of ticket sales will go to the Vanderlip Heritage Fund. The Fund seeks to promote history, art, and nature on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. They do this through art, music and gardening workshops, and from this strive to preserve wildlife, classical gardens, historical sites and archives in the area.
- Exact meet-up location will be emailed to attendees prior to event.
- Carpooling is encouraged.
- Bring additional layers as needed for the garden tour.
