Field Trip Day in Los Angeles and Seattle is coming up this month! We are thrilled to be continuing this series of local explorations that started last month in Brooklyn and London with Field Trip Day 2013 from Field Trip and Niantic Labs at Google.

Field Trip is an app from Niantic Labs at Google that helps you discover new places and stories all around you, and Field Trip Days are afternoon-long explorations, revealing the city’s secrets using smart phones and your wits to discover the hidden stories that rest just underneath the surface in every neighborhood.

So bring some friends and come out to discover neighborhoods you thought you knew in Los Angeles and Seattle on September 15th. Registration is free, but space is limited - Ticket information is below:

LOS ANGELES - Sunday, September 15

Take a Field Trip with us as we explore the place that gave us the Mars Rover Landing, Scientology, Jackie Robinson, the Occult of Jack Parsons, and the Tournament of Roses - Pasadena, California. Just north of Los Angeles, the picturesque Southern California city is nestled at the base of the San Gabriel mountains. For decades, train tracks criss-crossed the city allowing layman and celebrity alike to escape the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles for a day of shopping, hiking, and entertainment. Beyond this beauty, though, there’s always been a darker, more rebellious side of Pasadena: a place where religion, magic, and rocket science collide.

SEATTLE - Sunday, September 15

Join us for a Field Trip through Ballard, the salty heart of north Seattle. Named for the man who won the “worthless” land in a coin-flip, Ballard has proven its worth ever since. With its blue-collar legacy in the Ballard Terminal Railroad to the Bergen Place mural celebrating Scandinavian heritage alongside modern development, we’ll also explore the local arts and unexpected history. We’ll find out which esoteric philosophy is right for you at the well-hidden Seattle Metaphysical Library, learn the art of vodka distillation at the Old Ballard Liquor Company, and end the afternoon at Hale’s Palladium with a circus performance and live music.
