Hope, renewal and rebirth, reflecting the city skyline: In Buenos Aires an enormous stainless steel bloom faces the sun with graceful, silvery petals the size of schoolbuses.

Artist and architect Eduardo Catalano designed the massive installation which stands outside the National Museum of Fine Arts in 2002 as a symbol of hope and rebirth. This gift to the city of Buenos Aires is over 75 feet tall, and weighs in at 18 tons. Although the sculpture was designed to open and close each day, it is currently being kept permanently open.

Of course, there are real, gigantic flowers out there. Unfortunately, they have an unfortunate tendency to smell like rotting meat.
