The Center of the Universe: An Insider's Tour

Get the inside scoop on some of Fremont's oldest buildings and learn about the history of the annual Solstice Festival.

Known officially as the "Center of the Universe," Fremont is one of Seattle’s oldest, quirkiest, and most beloved neighborhoods. Strange oddities greet visitors around every corner, from a statue of Lenin to a sci-fi rocket that bears the Fremont crest and motto, “De Libertas Quirkas” or “Freedom to be Peculiar.” 

Join guide Megan Hanna to learn more about some of the most historic locations in Fremont, including the Doric Masonic Templethe Fremont Baptist Church, and the “Powerhouse,” official headquarters of the Fremont Arts Council and imagination factory for the annual Solstice Festival. Peter Toms, cofounder of the Solstice Festival and a member of the arts council, will show guests around the workshop and talk about the history of the fair.

Local explorers and out-of-towners alike will feel like true “Fremonsters” after embarking on this exciting tour!
