Prairie Avenue District Walking Tour

Atlas Obscura partners with Chicago for Chicagoans for this unique tour!

Chicago for Chicagoans challenges any "extra six weeks of winter" the groundhog might predict as we venture out for our newest neighborhood tour–a two-hour walk through Chicago's Prairie Avenue District.

Beginning at the Cermak-McCormick Place Green Line stop, the tour will cover the architecture, landmarks, and stories of Prairie Avenue–from Marshall Field and Al Capone to the fierce preservation battles that have saved much what we can see today. The afternoon will end with a meal at Spoke & Bird, a South Loop farm-to-table spot known for its coffee, beer, and tasty food. Come learn something new about your place in the city space.

You'll be guided special guest collaborator Amy Weber of Atlas Obscura. Amy's South Side pride and love of historic gems tucked off the beaten path will serve us well as we explore an area once nicknamed "Millionaire's Row," a nod to the magnificent mansions of Chicago's elite that lined the street. Amy is a veteran traveler and the organizational whiz behind the plethora of tours, events, and shenanigans put together by the Illinois Obscura Society.

Field Agent Amy Weber
This event is hosted by Atlas Obscura Field Agent Amy Weber, a dedicated national and international traveler. Amy enjoys the challenge of getting on a plane and letting life just happen. With over 15 solo tours under her belt, she knows the joys of exploration and finding that something extra that makes the experience spectacular. Being grown up means she now is limited to only two weeks of vacation, so exploration around her backyards is her jam.
