Lebanese Culinary Immersion in Brooklyn

Explore the international tastes of New York City with a unique, hands-on experience, lead by a Lebanese immigrant and Brooklyn resident.

Join Atlas Obscura and the League of Kitchens for a culinary and cultural adventure in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. With League of Kitchens' Lebanese instructor, Jeanette, as your guide, you’ll explore Bay Ridge’s 5th Avenue, a colorful main drag whose shops and restaurants tell the neighborhood’s long and rich immigrant story.

May 27, 11-1:30pm: Shopping Tour
Learn how to navigate 5th Avenue’s markets as you get the behind-the-scenes look at three of Jeanette’s favorites. With Jeanette’s help, you’ll get the real insider scoop on authentic Lebanese ingredients and cooking. After shopping, you’ll grab a well-deserved snack at a bustling restaurant where everything from flavors and hospitality to occasional live music and Dabke (Levantine line dancing) is authentically Lebanese.

June 10, 1-6:30pm: Cooking Class Immersion (vegetarian)
Jeannette puts incredible care and detail into her cooking, as you will see when you work with her. You'll prepare a spread of Lebanese food, including smoky, garlicky baba ganoush, mujaddara porridge, and salatet malfoof, a bright and tangy cabbage salad. For a sweet, you'll learn to make maamoul, a beautiful and festive semolina shortbread cookie, perfumed with rose water, orange blossom water, and mahlab, and filled with walnuts and pistachios.

Ticket options are for the shopping tour and cooking class ($250) or tour only ($75). Purchase a ticket for all 6 sessions here ($600). Ticket price includes all food.
